PROJECT SUMMARYA social project "Assistance to disabled soldiers after the military conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh", developed at the initiative of Rotary E-Club of Russia and Rotary Club of Yerevan-PanArmenian.
The problem of socio-psychological adaptation of disabled people who participated in military operations to the conditions of peaceful life in the society is one of the most important facets of the general integration problem. Participation in a war has an unconditional impact on a person's consciousness, subjecting it to serious changes. With their peculiar life experiences, they are a population category that needs a special approach. The project "Assistance to disabled soldiers after the military conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh" is motivated by the need to involve soldiers with disabilities into a full life together with other members of society. The project aims to assist the integration of disabled soldiers into society, to create favorable conditions for their life (education, employment, career growth). The target group of the project: 200 disabled soldiers in need of support.

SOCIAL IMPORTANCE OF THE PROJECTIn these days there are many words about charity, about attention to people, especially to those who need it more than others, i.e. combatants who have become disabled and experienced the psychologically traumatic effects of the military situation, who like no other need understanding, help in self-realization and adaptation.
The leap year 2020 will be remembered worldwide not only by the COVID 19 pandemic, but also by the military conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. During 44 days of fighting, on the Armenian side there were about 4 thousand soldiers and militia men who were killed. More than 10 thousand were disabled. Most of them are young men aged 18 to 35. These losses were catastrophic for the small population of the Republic of Armenia (2 million 700 thousand people). There were also civilian victims and more than 90,000 people became refugees and lost their homes and property. The war was a great and long ordeal for the country and the Armenian people. Everybody tried to help in this difficult period. Taking into consideration the post-war crisis situation in the country (economic, military, political) it is very hard for the disabled people to realize their potential on their own. That is why the members of the Rotary E-Club of Russia felt the need to set up a project with Rotary Club of Yerevan-PanArmenian to help the young soldiers. There were researches with different groups, totally with 48 persons from different cities, as well as within a multifunctional center: "Help for Wounded Soldiers and the Disabled in the Military". Focus-group interviews (FGI) took place in the following cities: Yerevan - 2 FGI, Gyumri - 1 FGI, Vanadzor - 1 FGI, Gavar - 1 FGI, Armavir - 1 FGI.
Respondents: men 18-35, combatants. The groups explored aspects of optimal adaptation to civilian life, positive socialization, and prevention of post-traumatic syndrome. Respondents reacted very well to the very idea of helping them in the form of training, courses, consultations.
MAIN VALUES AND REFERENCE POINTS OF THE RESPONDENTS- Younger people: personal development, education, vivid impressions, learning new things.
- People over 30: stability (stable income), family, leisure.
The main aspect of adaptation to peaceful life, absolutely for all respondents, is successful socialization in the form of a decent-paid, interesting and prestigious job, or "own business". Opinions were distributed as follows:
- Respondents of age 18-25: want to acquire a prestigious specialty (or at least primary skills) in IT 3 D modelling, 3 D Max, graphic design, Video editing, Web design UI/UX and new media. Want to learn how to program, do SMM, create websites and online stores. Also interested in the basics of design and work with video materials.
- Respondents of age 26-35: want to do handmade, make unique handicrafts, souvenirs, eco-products and household items. They want to sell them through the Internet to continue to live in their small homeland, so they do not have to leave it to earn money. They need help, both in professional training in terms of learning a particular craft, and knowledge of selling promotion, also need at least a basic knowledge of English or improving knowledge.
The main part of the respondents would like to be able to study at their place of residence, but they agree to go to Yerevan in case of need.
- Respondents under 30 years of age have an absolutely positive attitude to the idea of learning online.
- Respondents over 30 would rather have a mixed system of online and offline learning
Respondents under 30 years of age are willing to study any day of the week. Respondents over 30 are more likely to agree to study on weekends, and on weekdays in the evenings.
Respondents of older age are not sure that they can force themselves to study by themselves, they think that they need a tutor/mentor.
Based on the results of the study the participants concluded that the target group of 68 people are ready to study. There were
- 20 respondents from Wounded Soldiers and Disabled Soldiers Assistance Center, who already selected professions and
- 48 from different cities, who will decide what they want to do in the near future.
Respondents confirmed their moral readiness to "do the lessons" and "take the exams". Graph with the description of the chosen professions and their cost for 20 respondents, provided by the center: "Assistance to Wounded Soldiers and Disabled Soldiers":
